In the news... Government sends in 'Supernannies' to help British parents
As Tony Blair announces plans to bring in “Supernannies” to help curb antisocial behaviour in 77 areas of England, the Supernanny TV show has moved online to give support and advice to British parents.
“We get inundated with emails from desperate parents who have watched Supernanny and are finding it difficult to cope with day-to-day issues like the ones raised on the TV show,” says Supernanny.com managing editor,
Rhianon Williams.
The government is sending in nannies to focus on routine, parenting skills, nutrition, budgeting and roles and responsibilities - exactly what is covered on the Supernanny website. Rhianon says, “We can’t bring a Supernanny into every home in Britain, but every parent with internet access can get help with their parenting skills.”
The Supernanny Forum’s posts suggest many parents lack confidence in their discipline skills. “Sadly, there is no ‘how to’ book for parenting, but this is the next best thing. The website is a safe place for parents to discuss the issues and dilemmas that are on their minds,” says Rhianon. Supernanny.com provides simple, step-by-step techniques to support parents. Along with the famous reward chart and naughty step are expert features on tantrums, setting boundaries and establishing house rules.
The Supernanny TV programme has brought the issue of child behaviour into the public arena and sparked hot debate amongst parents and experts. The programme is currently watched by 13.5 million viewers in the UK and US, and there are 13 non-English ‘Supernannies’ worldwide.
The UK and US versions of the Supernanny websites are the first to launch, with Australian and non-English versions to follow in coming months. Rhianon says, “The Supernanny TV programme has brought the issue of child behaviour into the public arena and sparked hot debate among parents and experts. Supernanny.com expands this discussion to a new, international level.”
