Child Safety Zone

Will and Amanda

We are William and Amanda Dallow; we are the Directors of Child’s safety Zone Ltd. We have been married for 25 years and have 4 children and 2 grandchildren. My husband William is the inventor of the Child’s Safety Hand Rail his motivation for this simple yet extremely effective invention came about after he experienced in a short period of time 2 children sustaining injuries in the door jams of external doors in our home.
The first was a young child who was visiting our home who nearly lost the end of one of her fingers in the jam of our back door. She was stepping out of the doorway and was using the door jam to steady herself , when somebody opened the front door causing a gust of wind, which resulted in the back door slamming, crushing the little girls fingers and nearly severing the end of one of her fingers. Amazingly, she made full recovery and only has a slight indent on her nail.
The second was very similar in how it happened in that she was holding onto the door jam to steady herself as she negotiated the step through the front door this little girl sustained bruising.
We have since discovered through RoSPA that more than 40,000 children a year visit the Accident and Emergency dept in the UK and 60% of those injuries are from injuries to fingers sustained through the hinges of external doors. These statistics do not include children who for whatever reason do not attend the A & E department or children who sustain injuries from falling out of the doorway.
The injuries that can be sustained by children through coming in and out of front, back and interior doors can be extremely serious. In some cases the injuries caused to little fingers can lead to amputation.
The heart of Child’s Safety Zone Ltd is to place as many of these hand rails on front and back doors and anywhere else where children frequent as we are able to substantially impact the 60% of injuries caused to little hands and fingers.
