Simone was born with shortened arms and legs as a consequence of Thalidomide. She is Vice-Chair of Disabled Parents Network, a National user-led organisation providing support, information and advice to disabled parents. Her involvement with the organisation began in 1998 following an unsuccessful attempt to obtain support in her parenting role. She became determined to play a part in bringing about change for disabled parents.
Since 2002, Simone has been a recipient of Direct Payments, and employs five members of staff to support her in running the household and in her parenting role.
Simone carries out a number of paid and voluntary committee roles and has written and contributed to a number of published articles and features relating to her impairment and her experiences as a disabled parent as well as making regular presentations at national and local events.
She lives with her eleven year old daughter in Reading, Berkshire.
